The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has shared a travel advisory for all passengers, especially those who plan to rent cars at Entebbe International Airport, during the busy Hajj travel season from May 19 to May 29, 2025.
Thousands of Ugandan Muslims will be travelling to Mecca for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. This large number of travelers, along with their family and friends who often come to see them off, is expected to cause heavy traffic in and around the airport. Passengers who plan to rent cars at the airport should expect delays and allow extra time for their journey.
UCAA is advising all travelers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight. Most international airlines stop checking in passengers one hour before take-off. Late arrival could result in missing your flight, especially during this busy time.
Travelers using rental cars are reminded to follow airport traffic rules and signs carefully. A special area in the airport car park has been set up where Hajj pilgrims will gather and receive travel guidance. Only vehicles with official airport access stickers will be allowed to enter this area. All other visitors, including those in rental cars, will be directed to a separate waiting area.
If you wish to rent a car at Entebbe Airport, be prepared for delays due to high traffic. You should also follow the instructions of airport staff and security to help keep traffic moving smoothly.
These temporary measures have been put in place to reduce congestion and help everyone move through the airport safely and quickly. UCAA has asked all travelers and visitors for their cooperation and understanding.
Over 1,600 Ugandan pilgrims are expected to travel to Mecca this year for Hajj, showing a steady increase from 1,300 in 2023 and 1,600 in 2024. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and attracts millions of Muslims worldwide each year, including many from Uganda.
